Storm Gloria hit Spain. 13 fatalities. Gigantic losses
Losses due to the Gloria storm that passed through the Iberian Peninsula
reach tens of millions of euros in Spain, according to government estimates on
Friday. The storm raged over the peninsula from January 18 to 24.
Victims and the largest losses were recorded in Catalonia. On Friday, the
regional government announced two days of mourning for at least three people
who had died as a result of Gloria's transition. A special assistance plan was
also announced that day. The regional government estimates the huge losses. Not only local agriculture suffered serious damage, but also
tourism due to the flooding of numerous beaches.
According to Spanish civil defense, by the afternoon of Friday, 13 people
had been confirmed deaths throughout the country. Four people are still being
sought and over 100 injured. Two of them are in a serious condition in
hospitals.
